Municipal Park "da Catacumba" (of the Catacomb) - Rio de Janeiro - Brazil

Following a series of accidents in the favela "da Catacumba", which was located until the 1970s in the district "da Lagoa" (Lagoon), in the southern zone of Rio de Janeiro, a project of " defavelisation ”, urbanization and reforestation of certain favelas in the city was launched by the prefecture. Where the Favela da Catacumba once stood, today we find the Municipal Park of the Catacomb, one of the best parks in Rio de Janeiro, made up of stairs that lead visitors to themed squares with modernists sculptures and to various attractions and activities. A well-marked path leads to two lookouts at the top of the hill, the “Mirante do Sacopã” and the “Mirante do Urubu”, with incredible views of many famous tourist spots in Rio de Janeiro: Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, beach of 'Ipanema, Botanical Garden, “Pedra da Gávea”, “Morro Dois Irmãos” (Hill of the Two Brothers) and Christ the Redeemer.

The Parc of the Catacomb is the municipal park in Rio de Janeiro which offers the greatest number of physical and even radical activities: zipline, tree climbing, abseiling as well as a climbing wall.

The ascent lasts about twenty minutes and you can spend an entire day in the park enjoying all the programs and activities on offer.

It is common throughout the park to see monkeys of different species jumping from branch to branch. The place is an ideal destination both alone and with the family.
