Joatinga Beach

Considered by surfers to be one of the best beaches in Rio de Janeiro, Joatinga Beach is known to Cariocas as one of the safest, cleanest and most exclusive beaches in the city. The only access to the strip of sand, protected from the crowds by a narrow path hampered by huge stones, is through the Joá condominiums. This small beach located between the districts of Barra da Tijuca and São Conrado does not exceed 300 meters in extension. On the stony path between trees and rocky walls, the visitor is confronted with signs displaying messages of peace, love and preservation of nature which evoke a pleasant feeling of harmony during the descent.
Joatinga Beach is known as a surfer's paradise! In fact, you will never see so many of them on such a small beach. Due to the difficult access, the public is predominantly young, but older people and families with children also frequent it. For being located in the middle of upscale neighborhoods and probably for being the safest in Rio de Janeiro, Joatinga Beach is also a favorite with artists and famous people.
The dazzling spectacle of nature on all sides never fails to enchant. From the top of the trail, visitors are struck by a splendid dominant view of the beach on one side and Pedra Bonita on the other. If you are staying at “Casa São Conrado” it will take you less than 10 minutes by car or bus to reach the beach. On sunny weekends, it is not uncommon for house guests to go to the beach in small groups to enjoy this tropical paradise together.
