Ecological reserve Guapiaçu
01-07-2025
Just two hours from Rio de Janeiro, the Guapiaçu Ecological Reserve (REGUA) is an inspiring example of nature conservation. Founded by the Locke family on the land of the former Fazenda do Carmo, it now protects a vast area of Atlantic Forest.
With over 470 hectares restored and 485 bird species recorded, REGUA attracts researchers, students, and nature lovers from all over the world. The reserve is actively involved in reforestation, reintroduction of endangered species like the tapir and the black-fronted piping guan, and environmental education programs for local youth.
REGUA also offers comfortable accommodation in the heart of nature, ideal for discovering the region’s ecological richness while supporting a model conservation project.
