Macacu Waterfalls

Cachoeiras de Macacu is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Rio de Janeiro, located 97 km from the state capital. It has its name from the dozens of waterfalls of extraordinary beauty of the municipality, such as the Tenebroso, Sete Quedas, Barba, Samambaia, Chapadão and Furna da Onça. Recently the municipality has become an attraction for trekking, mountaineering, rappel and other forms of extreme sports and ecotourism, and part of its territory is located in the limits of the Três Picos State Park, with its imposing set of granite mountains that rise to 2,366 meters above sea level forming the culmination of the entire Serra do Mar.
