Ilhabela

One of the few typically tropical places in the Brazilian state of São Paulo is a municipality located in the region of São Sebastião. It has one of the most beautiful landscape compositions in southeastern Brazil, as well as being one of the main tourist spots on the north coast of São Paulo. Due to tourism, Ilhabela's main source of income, the population of the municipality increases up to five times during the high season of the year. According to the official website of Ilhabela, the place is the most sought-after destination on São Paulo’s north coast by Brazilians and foreigners.

Bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, Ilhabela is the largest island-archipelago of Brazil, known mainly for its beaches, many of them still unexplored, in addition to being filled with forests with beautiful trails with waterfalls. As an archipelago municipality, Ilhabela is formed by several islands and islets, the largest of which is São Sebastião Island, where the administrative headquarters of the municipality is also located.

In addition to all the tropical beauty of the archipelago, Ilhabela also has an interesting curiosity to show: In 2007, the more than two thousand years old bones of a man were discovered on one of the beaches of this place uninhabited until the colonization of Brazil.
