Chapada dos Guimarães National Park

The Chapada (Plateau) dos Guimarães National Park, located in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso, is one of the main tourist attractions in the Brazilian cerrado (savanna). It was created in 1989 and occupies 326.3 km². The park protects local ecosystems, ensures the preservation of existing natural resources and archaeological sites.
It is known for its strange sandstone formations and viewpoint with stunning views of the Pantanal plain. In addition to the great diversity of its fauna, the park has a rich hydrography composed of many waterfalls that provide its visitors with an impressive natural spectacle.
We invite you to explore the park to see the viewpoint of Cachoeira Véu de Noiva (Bridal Veil Waterfall), the Circuito das Cachoeiras (Waterfalls Circuit, which includes the House of Stone Cave), the Rio Claro Valley, Morro de São Jerônimo (Mount of St. Jerome) and Cidade de Pedras (Stone City).
According to geological studies, Chapada dos Guimarães formed the seabed about 300 million years ago. It is still possible to find shells’ fossils on the site today.
The park does not charge tickets, but to visit any attraction it is mandatory to hire accredited guides at the inns or local agencies, except for the viewpoint of Véu de Noiva.
Local handicrafts are one of the references in the city and artisans usually exhibit their work in the public square from Tuesday to Sunday.
