Ilha Grande is an island located in the municipality of Angra dos Reis of Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, which has about 5,000 inhabitants. The sixth largest maritime island in Brazil, it offers magnificent landscapes formed by peninsulas and coves, bordered by beaches of immeasurable beauty.
The predominantly mountainous relief of the island covers an area of ??around 193 km², where Atlantic Forest, mangrove and sandbanks alternate. It is the cradle of great biodiversity and one of the most popular places in the state of Rio de Janeiro for its various tourist activities, such as mountaineering, camping, hiking, surfing, among others.
The islanders live mainly from fishing and tourism. Ilha Grande has a few communities, with Vila do Abraão, its main village of 3,000 inhabitants, Enseada do Bananal, Praia Vermelha, Praia do Japariz, and others.

Access to Ilha Grande is only possible by boats, which take you to a point of your choice on the island from the port of the municipality of Angra dos Reis in Rio de Janeiro.
Ilha Grande offers recreation for all ages. There are beaches with calm, green and crystalline seas, ideal for families, but also beaches suitable for sport. The main and best known of the island are Feiticeira, Aventureiro, Lopes Mendes, Abraão, not to mention Praia da Cachoeira beach, which is one of the most popular.
To get to Praia da Cachoeira, as well as most of the tours offered on the island, you can take a boat or hike to Araçatiba Bay. This route is straightforward and can be done in just 20 minutes. With a strip of about 300 m of golden sand, the beach is both clear and shaded and ideal for witnessing the magnificent sunsets that bathe the sea in a reddish hue. The cove offers a dining and accommodation option.
