Arraial do Cabo in Rio de Janeiro

19-06-2023

Arraial do Cabo is located 140 km from Rio de Janeiro, on the coast known as the “lakes region”, about 2 and a half hours away.

Known as the Brazilian Caribbean, its natural beauty ranges from a coastline of fine sand and perfect turquoise water, to lagoons, dunes, and hills covered with Atlantic Forest vegetation.

A short walk from the city center, which is on a peninsula, and you can feel the sand between your toes and dive into the warm sea. The nearest beaches are Praia Dos Anjos and the expansive Praia Grande. Watch the fishing traditions at Porto do Forno and then walk over the headland to Praia do Forno. Enjoy the calm waters and relax in the seaside bars at Prainha.

Ride a bike, drive or walk to the Mirante do Pontal do Atalaia, which offers superb views of the southern tip of the city's peninsula. Along this route you pass Praia Brava until you reach Praia do Pontal do Atalaia. To see more scenic places, take a short boat ride from Porto do Forno to Cabo Frio Island. Watch the dolphins and the rays from the shore and dive in the Blue Grotto.
