Anavilhanas National Park

22-05-2021

The magnificent river archipelago of Anavilhanas with around 400 islands is a labyrinth of Amazon forests cut through by the dark color of the arms of the Rio Negro. It is located in the Amazon between the municipalities of Manaus and Nova Airão. The region is under the protection of the Anavilhanas National Park, a Brazilian nature conservation authority for the integral protection of nature, which is managed by the Chico Mendes Institute for the Conservation of Biodiversity (ICMBio), that in addition to the conservation of the forest also promotes scientific research and valorization of the park through environmental education and sustainable tourism and is as well implementing measures with sustainable principles in harmony with the surrounding local communities. On site, you can explore hiking trails in the Amazon rainforest, take boat trips, snorkel with dolphins, and learn about local riverside communities. Between September and February, the dry season, beautiful beaches emerge from the river bed. Between March and August, the rainy season, it is possible to discover the trails in the flooded forest on board a small boat. Other activities include observing the landscape, flora and fauna, tree climbing, scenic flights and water sports. Overnight stays are permitted in several places in the park, including rustic accommodations where you can camp wild or practice "hanging camping" in trees.
