Rio dos Bugres Canyon

Located in the municipality of Urubici, in the state of Santa Catarina, the Rio dos Bugres Canyon has one of the most beautiful waterfalls of Brazil and of the mountain range of Santa Catarina. Despite its beauty, the Rio dos Bugres waterfall, which is difficult to access, is little known. In addition to being beautiful, the 218-meter-high fall is one of the largest in the country and hides a cave behind the curtain of water. The waters of another waterfall, the Rio das Cobras, fall from above the same canyon.
In addition to the long journey, the rugged terrain requires the use of a 4x4 vehicle so that visitors to the site are mainly veteran hikers and amateurs of radical programs.
Going around the upper plateau of the canyon, you get to the Rio das Cobras waterfall and reach a viewpoint with a frontal view of the Rio dos Bugres waterfall. The Campo dos Padres can be seen above the waterfall, the wall, the grotto and much of the canyon around it: spectacular!
In Urubici, a municipality where the Rio dos Bugres Canyon is located, it is also recommended to visit the Morro da Igreja (Mount of the Church), belonging to the São Joaquim National Park. This mount is the highest inhabited point in the south of Brazil, with more than 1,822 meters in height, and is where the lowest temperature in Brazil was recorded: -17, 8º. From the summit the entire south coast of Santa Catarina can be seen!
